Our content management framework system follows the K.I.S.S. principles. We like to keep it as simple as possible for you to use in order that you can get the most benefit out of having a content-managed website.
CMS framework features:
As our CMS is only a framework system, any features you might require can be built in as part of the project costs. However, to give you a feel for the possibilities, here are some of the features that are commonly installed as part of the system:
- Search engine friendly URLs - all filenames are chosen by you (as .htm pages)
- Full control over Meta TITLE, Description and Keywords tags
- Publishing admin - have multiple contributors but limited publishing rights
- Flexible templates
- Upload PDFs, MP3s and other file types
- Run a side-by-side extranet from the same CMS
- Control menus independently of the file structure
- Control and admin common calls to action, such as enquiries, newsletter sign-ups and so on

The Indicium approach
Many CMS systems come "out the box". They are built to be generic, fitting as many possible applications as possible as broadly as possible. Other CMS systems are built from the ground up, being developed to fit exactly the requirements of a particular application. This latter approach provides a much better CMS experience, and better suits a complex set of circumstances, but has the disadvantage of being considerably more expensive.
At Indicium, however, we take a lateral approach. Traditionally, we have never provided "out the box" systems, we have always built to match people's requirements. However, our experience has taught us that there are generally a large number of common requirements, at least when it comes to the basic functionality. Therefore, we have adopted a hybrid approach, combining a pre-built framework with bespoke extensions.
Integrating bespoke development over a framework system
Our approach to content managed websites is to start with a half built system, incorporating the common and essential requirements of a standard CMS. From there, we build a finished bespoke content managed website with precisely the required functionality and power of a system built from the ground up.
By taking this approach, we can provide the advantages of a "built from scratch" system, with significant cost savings. This prices our bespoke sites much closer to the "out the box" price range. Typical prices for sites developed using this approach range from £3,500 or so, up to £10,000 or more depending on the additional functionality required.
